Frequently Asked Questions on Widow Pension

Who is eligible for widow pension under EPS?
The widow/widower of a deceased EPF member who was eligible for EPS pension (had at least 1 day of service under EPS) is entitled to monthly family pension. It is payable for life, even if the member had not retired.
How much widow pension will I receive?
The widow receives 50% of the pension the member was entitled to (or would have been entitled to). The minimum pension is ₹1,000 per month. We help calculate the exact amount.
What if the deceased member had not updated nomination?
If no nomination exists, legal heir certificate from court or succession certificate is required. We guide you through obtaining the certificate and filing claims with it.
Can children also get pension?
Yes, children up to 25 years of age (and unmarried daughters for life) receive 25% of the widow's pension each, subject to a maximum of 50% total for all children. Orphan children (both parents deceased) get 75% of the pension.
How long does it take to get widow pension after application?
Once the claim is filed with complete documents, EPFO typically settles within 15-30 days. The pension starts from the date of death, with arrears paid along with first pension.
