About Widow Pension Service

Under the Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS), 1995, the spouse (widow/widower) of a deceased EPF member is entitled to a monthly family pension. In addition, the family can claim the EPF balance, EDLI insurance (up to ₹7 lakh), and other benefits. Frequently Asked Questions on Widow Pension

Who is eligible for widow pension under EPS? ▼
The widow/widower of a deceased EPF member who was eligible for EPS pension (had at least 1 day of service under EPS) is entitled to monthly family pension. It is payable for life, even if the member had not retired.
How much widow pension will I receive? ▼
The widow receives 50% of the pension the member was entitled to (or would have been entitled to). The minimum pension is ₹1,000 per month. We help calculate the exact amount.
What if the deceased member had not updated nomination? ▼
If no nomination exists, legal heir certificate from court or succession certificate is required. We guide you through obtaining the certificate and filing claims with it.
Can children also get pension? ▼
Yes, children up to 25 years of age (and unmarried daughters for life) receive 25% of the widow's pension each, subject to a maximum of 50% total for all children. Orphan children (both parents deceased) get 75% of the pension.
How long does it take to get widow pension after application? ▼
Once the claim is filed with complete documents, EPFO typically settles within 15-30 days. The pension starts from the date of death, with arrears paid along with first pension.
