🧭 How-To Guide

How to Activate and Recover Your UAN

Step-by-step instructions for first-time UAN activation, and for recovering access if you've forgotten your UAN or login details.

1

Find your UAN

Your UAN is usually shared by your employer or printed on your payslip. If you don't have it, you can retrieve it via the 'Know Your UAN' option on the EPFO portal using your Aadhaar or PAN.

2

Activate for the first time

On the UAN member portal, choose 'Activate UAN', enter your UAN and basic details, and verify via OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number.

3

Set your password

Choose a strong password immediately after activation — this is what you'll use for all future logins, not your OTP.

4

Recover access if forgotten

Use the 'Forgot Password' option with your UAN and registered mobile number. If your mobile number has changed, this requires a KYC update first.

5

Link and verify KYC

Once logged in, confirm Aadhaar, PAN, and bank details are seeded — this step is required before you can file any claim.

❓ Frequently Asked

Common Questions

What if my registered mobile number is no longer active?
You'll need to update your mobile number through your employer or via an Aadhaar-based KYC update before OTP-based access will work again.
Can I activate UAN without Aadhaar OTP?
Aadhaar-based activation is the fastest route; alternate verification is possible but slower and typically requires employer involvement.
